I love having a low-key vacation, so the Coconut Beach Resort in Key West is perfect for that. Located on the south side of town very near the Southernmost Resort, this getaway AWAY from Duval Street is a nice, quiet spot to unwind for a few days or a week. The condo style set up and long balconies connecting the rooms make it great for families or multigenerational trips.
I don’t know about you, but I like feeling like I am home at the end of a day of snorkeling or playing tourist. The Coconut Beach Resort is just that and a BBQ to boot. If you have any questions about staying here or need suggestions for planning your trip to Key West, please leave a comment or send us a note. We’re always happy to share more!

Highlights of Staying at the Coconut Beach Resort Key West
It’s easy to be swept up into the fancier resorts when you’re planning where to stay in the Florida Keys, but if you’re thinking about a chill vibe trip and you would like plenty of space, the Coconut Beach Resort may just be an amazing option for you. It’s in a great location to be really easy to get to Key West activities, like the Key West Butterfly Conservatory or Southernmost Point, but it’s also far enough from the busier spots that it’s quiet and peaceful. Chill. That’s the best word for it.
I really like the condo-style layout of the accommodations at the Coconut Beach Resort. Having ample living space when you’re visiting Key West is great, especially if you’re in the Florida Keys in the summer. Being able to come home and relax in the quiet AC but then be close enough to the pool and a small beach still, that’s fantastic. Convenience and relaxation are the key elements to consider when choosing where to stay for a low key vacation, and the Coconut Beach Resort hits that nail on the head.
Could the resort be fancier? Yes, but also no. When we were hanging out on property we were able to chat with several people who’ve been coming back to this same spot for many years. There’s a familiarity and comfort to Coconut Beach that people love, and I think that adds to the calm and overall vibe of the property.

Is the Coconut Beach Resort a Timeshare?
Yes, the Coconut Beach Resort does have a timeshare element to it, but don’t let that discourage you from considering it. We didn’t get approached about buying or have any awkward interactions relating to ownership or the timeshare industry at all, and that was over a five day stay. There’s a healthy mix at any given time of timeshare owners and general guests on their mellow Key West vacation. I might even say that the subtle timeshare element of the Coconut Beach Resort adds to the hominess and community you feel on property.

What Are the Accommodation Options at Coconut Beach Resort?
Like with most condo-style resorts, there are a few options for room layout when you’re booking your stay. At the Coconut Beach Resort, the room options are a one or two bedroom suite, or a studio. Each option is uniquely spacious (it’s an older resort from before small rooms were cool) and each has at minimum a kitchenette. The one and two bedroom units have a full kitchen with a dining area. All rooms have deck access with rocking chairs, and most units have an ocean view. There are only a few accommodations at the Coconut Beach Resort that don’t have an ocean view.

Amenities at the Coconut Beach Resort Key West
Even though I love when a resort has a nice gym space, I car much more about pool and beach access. Here at the Coconut Beach Resort those are two BIG amenities that absolutely make the stay here worthwhile. The pool is big and beautiful with a great deep end, and there’s even an oceanfront hot tub.
There is also beach access right here at the resort. Key West doesn’t have a lot of beachfront so finding places where you can get in the water from the sand is rare. True, this isn’t a large beach, but pair it with a sun deck for relaxing directly adjacent and you’re good to go! Other amenities include ample lounge chairs, towel service and office staff to help with planning your days.
Another great feature of the Coconut Beach Resort, and we really enjoyed taking advantage of it, is the outdoor kitchen space. There is a common covered kitchen area beyond the pool that is open to guests, including grills and plenty of seating. Whether you want to do a family dinner outside or share a meal with new friends staying at the resort, this is a great, unique feature of the Coconut Beach Resort that adds to the chill environment.

Nearby Dining in the Southernmost Point Neighborhood
There aren’t any restaurants on property at the Coconut Beach Resort, but you’re just steps from Duval Street and a twenty minute walk from endless dining options. If you don’t want to walk, it’s a cheap Uber/Taxi ride to further away restaurants, but you really do have lots of nearby options.
Here are some great picks that are within a fifteen minute walk of the Coconut Beach Resort:
- Louie’s Backyard – directly next door, on the water
- Ana’s Cuban Café – casual, quick and yummy
- El Siboney Cuban Restaurant – amazing pork, maduros and guava cake
- Lobster Shack Key West – super chill and low key delicious
- Sinz Burritos – kids’ favorite
- Moon Dog Café – love this place! Great desserts too.
- Abbondanza Italian Restaurant – family style
- Blue Heaven (it’s a staple and really is actually pretty darn good)
- Caroline’s Café – huge patio, great food, good value
- Key West Fish & Chips – wonderful location with really good fish tacos

Grocery and Liquor Stores near the Resort
Since we do a combination of dining out and cooking within our resort hotel unit, we are sure to keep our kitchen stocked with snacks and meal prep supplies. And that goes for cocktail supplies too. Luckily, the Coconut Beach Resort is located at the EDGE of the busier part of Key West, so getting to the grocery store isn’t a hassle any time of day.
The nearest grocery store is either Winn Dixie or Publix, both of which are about 8 minutes driving and both have a liquor store in the plaza. There are small neighborhood grocery markets as well, but if you need to do a full shop, we recommend hitting up the larger grocery stores.
If you have no intention of cooking while you’re enjoying your Key West vacation time, you can pop over a block to get cocktail fixings and snacks at the Tipsy Rooster (4 minute walk).

Parking Details at the Coconut Beach Resort
There are two options for parking at the Coconut Beach Resort. You can either park in their small garage off the street or find street parking. I prefer street parking because I’m not good at tight garages, but if you’re more skilled than I am or are driving a smaller car, the garage access may be just right for you.
Once we get into Key West we rarely use our car, so if you do have one with you, it’ll probably work out fine to just park it in the garage space for the duration of your stay. If you park on the street be mindful of both time/date restricted parking AND resident permit parking. You don’t want to get towed.
