Choosing a hotel or resort in Key West is a complex decision some times. Do you want to have a party stay or a peaceful stay? If you’re visiting Key West without kids, you may be looking for a fun, party atmosphere and that’s where Havana Cabana fits into your plans. An adults-only hotel, the Havana Cabana is more of a party scene than most other Key West resorts, so it may just be the perfect fit for you. Should You Stay at Havana Cabana Key West?

Each trip to the Florida Keys is very different depending on the weather, your plans and the people you’re traveling with. If you’re choosing the Havana Cabana Resort that means that you’re planning an adults-only visit to Key West and maybe are looking forward to spending more time relaxing or living it up than when you’re visiting with kids and sticking to a schedule. Havana Cabana is nice for planning a combination of downtime, party time and enjoying Key West how you might not if kids are around.

The pool setting here is mellow in the morning, fun in the lunch hours and then a party in the afternoon. At night it’s like a mellow club. The lounging spaces all around the pool courtyard are great for enjoying a beverage with friends or just setting up with a pool towel and your book. I think that’s what makes staying at the Havana Cabana Resort a nice option: you aren’t obligated to have any one sort of experience and you can enjoy it on your own schedule.

Location of the Havana Cabana Resort

While most people look to stay in the historic neighborhoods and seaport of Key West, I like staying on Roosevelt Boulevard sometimes. This is the stretch of waterfront when you first enter Key West, and you’ll actually find some other wonderful properties here too. The Gates Hotel, Laureate Hotel, 24 North Hotel and Beachside are all located in this neighborhood, and here’s the great thing about these places: since it’s not downtown you get much better room rates!

Also, there are plenty of activities that go out from this part of Key West or nearby. Night Kayak Key West leaves from about 1/4 mile away, Lazy Dog Adventures does their Sandbar Charters and kayaking from Hurricane Hole another 1/4 mile away, and then the Key West Tropical and Botanical Garden is close as well. I think this is a great location, and since the Havana Cabana is an adults-only property, you won’t need to worry about kids complaining about the shuttle between downtown and the resort. I like staying out here!

Room Options at Havana Cabana Key West

Even though the Havana Cabana Key West is an adults only resort, they still have room options that accommodate more than just a couple. There are two queen room and then a variety of king rooms. All of the king rooms also have a sofa bed, and there are even some king rooms that have an additional loft bunk (the resort used to not be adults-only). You can book rooms with balconies or just standard rooms, and then you can also choose to be poolside vs exterior. There are lots of choices, and the more space and relaxable the room becomes, the higher the nightly rate.

Havana Cabana Key West is only two stories high, so you will either be on the ground floor or second floor. I do prefer to be on the second floor and away from the pool, as I’m sensitive to noise and even with quiet hours I still can pull an annoying sound out of anywhere.

Havana Cabana Key West Amenities

I’ve already covered the swimming pool at the Havana Cabana Resort which, by the way, is the largest swimming pool in Key West. All around the pool you’ll find lounge chairs, tables, hammocks, fun seating areas, swings, shady spots to relax, and lots of yard games if you’re in the mood to be sporty. I found that many of the people I met around the pool were actually parents visiting without their kids, so that was a nice commonality among a fair number of guests.

The other prime amenity offered at the Havana Cabana Resort is the complimentary shuttle into Key West’s Historic Seaport area. Not that I’m saying that staying at an adults-only resort and not having to drive anywhere means that you should be partying it up and going cocktail crazy, but if you happen to do that, the shuttle is a safe way to get between the resort and main area of town. It’s a responsible option and good for ensuring you can have an enjoyable and safe visit. Other amenities at the Havana Cabana Resort include…

Dining at the Havana Cabana

There are a few options for getting food and drinks at the Havana Cabana Resort. By the pool there is a wonderful tiki bar, Mojitos Pool Bar, where you can redeem your complimentary welcome beverages and enjoy cocktails and soft drinks throughout the day. Not too far from here is the food truck, Floridita. This is a great mobile kitchen serving up Cuban cuisine with a Key West twist. I really like their empanadas (they’re open from breakfast at 8:00 am until long after dinner hours). Also on property is Flama Cabana Lounge for tapas and cocktails

Havana Cabana Parking Information

Parking is included with your resort fee at the Havana Cabana Resort in Key West. It is self-parking, but there are plenty of spaces both in front and back of the main hotel area. Drive past the classic cars that look straight out of Havana, Cuba and wind around back to the parking area surrounded by colorful murals of iguanas, chickens, dancers and scenes from Havana. It’s actually a pretty cool place even though it’s just the parking lot.
