Why Stay at the Marker Key West

We rarely book upscale hotels or resorts for ourselves because we spend so little time at our accommodations when we’re traveling. The Marker Resort was a hotel stay that we did with the purpose of actually spending time at the hotel and really just relaxing and enjoying a non-busy trip. We made sure to make lots of plans to… lay by the pool. We planned our time so that we actually could relax on our deck and play cribbage, and so that we could chill at the pool with our kids, letting them set the pace.

Because we get to travel so much, having downtime to enjoy a resort is rare, and the Marker Key West was wonderful for it. Yes, we planned a few activities going out of the Key West Bight Marina, aka the Historic Seaport, since it’s next door. Even for snorkeling and sunset sailing, we literally could just walk out of the Marker Resort and check into our tours. This stay was the definition of chill and easy.

Room Options at the Marker Key West

I love that every room at the Marker Resort Key West has a balcony. Having outdoor space, especially when you’re someplace like Key West where it’s warm and breezy, is so important for relaxing travel. While every room has a balcony with lush tropical vegetation outside, the bigger suites are the only ones with full sized decks/patio spaces. That’s okay though, as the hotel rooms themselves are very large and there is plenty of public space too. Check out the hotel website here.

The primary room types at the Marker Key West are either King or Two Queen rooms. None of these have sleeper sofas in them, so the maximum capacity is either two or four people. There are one and two bedroom suites that sleep several more people, but at that point, the cost has at least doubled for booking, so you might as well consider multiple rooms as well as the suite options.

Marker Key West Resort Amenities

The pools at the Marker Key West Resort are not giant, but they’re perfect for keeping things low key. There is a main swimming area that has pool and a hot tub, as well as the pool bar and even a music performance space. Since this is the main pool for families, there are poolside yard games as well, such as cornhole. Lounge chairs, couches and umbrellas complete the main pool area.

And then there is the adults only pool area. I usually am not thrilled when an adults-only space exists at a resort, as our kids often see them and get bummed that they cannot enjoy it too, but not here. The adults only pool is in a secluded space away from most of the foot traffic around the property.

And then of course there is a fitness center. It’s been a long time since we’ve stayed at a resort that didn’t have a gym, so you should always expect that. The fitness center at the Marker Resort Key West is small but nicely maintained with free weights and cardio equipment… but I prefer a nice day snorkeling for a workout.

Dining at the Starboard, the Marker’s Poolside

The restaurant by the pool, the Starboard, has a very casual menu. The Marker Resort is located so close to lots of wonderful restaurants that leaving the hotel for dinner is not an inconvenience, but if you really feel like it is, you have the poolside restaurant and room service available.

Within steps of the Marker Key West is the Historic Seaport and at least five good restaurants, and then if you walk a half block further you find even more good dining. Here are the dining options that are literally right outside the Marker Resort:

  • The Conch Republic
  • Waterfront Brewery
  • Cuban Coffee Queen
  • Harpoon Harry’s
  • Half Shell Raw Bar
  • Boat House Bar & Grill
  • Fisherman’s Cafe

And there are many more. I love staying here for the pure convenience of it, but then the Marker Key West is also beautiful and comfortable, so overall it’s just a spot on choice.

Marker Resort Parking Information

Parking at the Marker Resort Key West is in their dedicated parking garage. You can self park for $25 per day at the parking lot across the street or do valet with in and out privileges for $40. We made the mistake of entering the parking garage with our rooftop carrier on our Subaru and we scraped it all up. Moral of the story: the parking garage has low clearance and even if they offer you the chance to park for yourself in the garage, allow them to do it.
