I rarely include time for non-travel relaxation time during our trips through the Florida Keys, but when I saw that the Faro Blanco Resort added a spa to the property and that they did day passes, I had to book it. It may not seem like something you’d want to add to a trip through the Keys because it’s indoors, not on the water, and doesn’t include beautiful fish or dolphins, but it’s worth it.
I’ve got the full scoop on what you can expect and plan for with a spa day at the Ocean Spa at the Faro Blanco Resort on Marathon. I think you’ll understand why I give this sort of activity a high rating to round out a Florida Keys trip. If you have any questions about the Ocean Spa or staying at the Faro Blanco Resort, please leave a comment or send us a note. Why do a Spa Day Pass at the Ocean Spa?
Arriving at the Ocean Spa at Faro Blanco, it’s just what you’d hope to find at a beautiful resort. I have loved the Faro Blanco Resort for a long time, and each time we stay here it’s at the end of a trip through the Keys, so we’re always tired and ready to relax. Marathon and the Middle Keys have so many things to do, including my favorite snorkeling tour, so by the time we are finishing out travels, I’m exhausted.
With the opening of the Ocean Spa at the Faro Blanco I was so thrilled to have a legit solution to ending a Florida Keys vacation actually feeling rested. With a bonus day and no plans, I decided to purchase a day pass to the Ocean Spa and was able to completely check out of the non-stop activities we’d been having. No, I didn’t book any specific spa treatments, but I literally just got the day pass to be in a calm, cool, beautiful space where I could just exist and mellow out. If you know me in real life, I don’t give the impression that a spa pass would be my number one request for my birthday, but I love the experience of getting to do all the physically relaxing things.
While massage isn’t my first choice, a sauna or steam room is, closely followed by soaking and then quiet, zen spaces to sit. While the Ocean Spa at the Faro Blanco doesn’t offer soaking tubs, the combination of steam sessions and resting in the relaxation suite was more than enough to make my day. Refreshments and private soft seating paired with being on nobody else’s schedule made my afternoon at the Ocean Spa one of my favorite days of this trip.

Tips for a Great Spa Day Pass Experinece
When you arrive at the Ocean Spa to use a day pass, you’re there to just enjoy the amenities that the spa has. This doesn’t include any applied treatments or spa interactions, just going at your own pace. If this is your first time doing a spa day pass experience, here’s how you can do it to ease into the mindset that it takes to deeply relax and then really enjoy the Ocean Spa:
- check in at reception and get all your talking out now
- confirm that the steam sauna has been started (takes a few minutes to be ready)
- change into the spa robe and slippers/flip flops provided
- begin with a relaxing shower using the provided spa products
- transition to the steam sauna – try to last 15 minutes
- transition to the relaxation suite and enjoy some refreshments which you mellow out in the comfortable quiet; you can read, rest your eyes, listen to your audiobook/podcast, or just scroll your phone if that makes you happy
- alternate between returning to the steam sauna, shower rinse, outdoor patio and relaxation suite
Repeat the different types of relaxation as much as you like. Having a spa day pass is really your invitation to just chill out and do the activities that bring you the rest and relaxation you haven’t gotten during the rest of your Florida Keys vacation. Note: the changing rooms and steam saunas are separated by gender (M/F). The relaxation suite is co-ed and there are staff monitoring the spaces to ensure all guests are comfortable in the Ocean Spa.

Being Prepared for an Ocean Spa Day Pass
The wonderful thing about enjoying a spa day pass, whether you’re here at the Ocean Spa at Faro Blanco or another one, is that you just have to arrive ready to relax. You don’t need to bring anything with you except what you want to enjoy during the experience.
I like to plan for a solid 2+ hours at the spa, so for me that’s actually the perfect time to do some writing (which I can do on my phone or tablet). Other ideas for occupying your mind while you spend time in the relaxation suite or patio is to enjoy an audio book or podcast you’ve downloaded via headphones, bring a book or magazine you want to get through, or even to bring a sketchpad to enjoy some time drawing while you relax in the spa.
For somebody who hasn’t had a spa pass day before, or even been to a spa for scheduled treatments, it’s not a fully private environment. A robe is provided for each guest, and what you have on under that is up to you. Some guests are most comfortable without any clothing under their robe, as it’s a very relaxed, natural environment and nobody cares about stuff like that, and others do prefer to have shorts or undergarments on. You do you, as long as it’s respectful of the other guests in the spa. Bringing shorts or a comfortable t-shirt for your relaxation suite time is 100% up to you and it’s all based on your own comfort level. The Ocean Spa at Faro Blanco is very peaceful and secluded from the resort environment, so you can feel confidently comfortable.

Parking for the Ocean Spa at the Faro Blanco Resort
For your day pass time at the Ocean Spa, you’ll go to the front building of the resort, just inside the entrance from the Overseas Highway. There is signage to direct you and then plenty of parking directly in front of the hotel building entrance where the Ocean Spa is located. If you’re a guest at the Faro Blanco Resort, you can access the Ocean Spa from within the hotel building, located on the first floor directly across from the fitness center.

Ideas for Enjoying the Middle Keys
Whenever I get to talk about my favorite places for history or snorkeling in the Keys, I always try to mention a few places in the Middle Keys that have been wonderful. I love the railroad history and the vintage imagery of the Middle Keys. The old Seven Mile Bridge, Pigeon Key, Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park…
And then the snorkeling and swimming in the Middle Keys is wonderful too. When it comes to planning a trip through the Keys, I think setting aside time right here in the Middle is a great way to mix quiet downtime with the fun of Key West and the adventures of Key Largo.
Where to Stay in the Middle Keys
Whether you’re working your way all the way to Key West or you just want to try out a new destination within the Keys, staying in the Middle Keys is really nice. It’s more quiet than Key West and much less busy than Key Largo. I like the resort hotels in the Middle Keys because so many of them have leaned into this mindset: quiet relaxation. Yes, there are lots of fun things to do and adventures to have, but the lodging options in this area really are the places where I get the best mental reset and fully sink into vacation mode.
