Key West’s Fury Sunset Sailing: Fun Catamaran Trip with a Live Band

I know I’m unique about this particular thing, but that’s why I wanted to share about it. Highlights of Fury’s Sunset Catamaran Sailing

I am always a fan of being able to just relax and enjoy the view, so doing a sunset sail on Fury Watersports large catamaran is a great addition to time in Key West. We’ve been out on lots of sunset cruises and they’re all very different. The Blu Q is like a neighborhood party with BYOB and chill people. Sunset Watersports evening snorkel is half sunset sailing and half adventure. The Fury Watersports sunset catamaran sailing is a bit of a mix of a party and an adventure (but without the snorkeling).

Because the boat is larger, there is plenty of room to enjoy the night on your own or with friends. You can be right there with the music or watching the sun go down from the other side of the ship. One of the reasons a lot of people book the Fury Watersports is because it’s both got a great price point and there is an open bar. You’ve got all your non-alcoholic drinks, wine, beer, margaritas and bubbles included, and the staff makes sure you’ve always got whatever you need. There’s also a nice snack spread available with small sandwiches, vegetables, meats, hummus, chips and more. It’s great for nearly any dietary needs, but if you have allergies or severe restrictions, that cannot be accommodated unfortunately. While it’s not completely a dinner cruise, it could serve as such if you needed to be done with your night when the sailing finishes.

One other thing that’s unique about the Fury Sunset Sailing in Key West is the music part of the trip. Commotion on the Ocean is what they call it, and it’s actually a blast. I personally don’t like live music, but the band on the sunset catamaran is really pleasant and does indeed add to the experience. Covering lots of different artists, the music is perfectly Florida Keys and makes the vibe happen. We also went parasailing with Fury Key West and it was equally fun with great people.

Tips for a Great Sunset Catamaran Sailing

When you’re visiting Key West with a group, there aren’t a ton of activities that work well for everyone, but the sunset sailing with Fury Watersports is a solid pick. It is both a family friendly activity and great for a group of adults that want to go on an open-bar cruise. Even though they have two boats for the nightly sunset sailings, the Fury Watersports trips book up so once you or your group is ready to commit, book it.

One of the questions we get whenever we talk about any sort of boat trip is how bad is the seasickness. I like being on larger boats like these catamarans because they handle small and large motion very well, but if you’re really sensitive to the waves, even a mellow sailing may be too much on a breezy night. While we’ve had lots of lovely calm sailings and sunset cruises, that’s just not guaranteed. A lot of people swear by motion sickness medication or the pressure point bracelets. If you’re concerned about it, be sure to address your needs BEFORE you are at the dock and ready to set sail.

Knowing the general vibe of Key West and the love of fun and music, choosing a sunset cruise might be a little confusing if you’re looking for something quiet and romantic maybe. Most tours will have medium to loud music, so keep that in mind when you’re booking, but the Fury Watersports sunset catamaran cruises are more mellow than a lot of the other boats. If you’re booking last minute or the day before, you can spend a few minutes in the marina and you’ll be able to tell which boats are more of a party. Choose what’s right for you, and I think it may be this trip.

Being Prepared for a Sunset Catamaran Cruise

Doing a sunset sail is fun and chill, and it has a bit of a sightseeing element to it. On the Fury Watersports sunset catamaran you’ll leave from the Historic Seaport area and sail out to the bay and then past Mallory Square where hundreds of people gather every night for the nightly Sunset Celebration. It’s great people watching and kind of fun to photograph. Beyond Mallory Square the sunset cruises move along the shores of Key West and even past Fort Zachary Taylor. You’ll have the chance to spot dolphins and beautiful birds, so keep your camera ready for those too.

While most of the year it’s nice and warm at night even on the water, in winter and spring it can be a little more chilly, in particular when the wind picks up a bit. Even in the summer when we head out on a sunset cruise we bring windbreakers or sweatshirts. There are areas on the Fury Watersports catamarans that are more sheltered from the wind, but even still, you want to be warm enough and comfortable, so bring a pullover of some sort.

Unlike some other sunset cruises from Key West, the Fury Watersports catamarans are NOT BYOB. There is an open bar and other options, so just enjoy that and don’t show up with your own coolers of adult beverages.

Parking for Fury Water Sports Sunset Cruise

There is not a lot of parking near the Historic Seaport where Fury Watersports does their sunset sailing and parasailing over Key West. You can park in the paid lot by the Waterfront Brewery, but it’s expensive and you’re not guaranteed to find a spot. There may be some street parking available, but again it’s a gamble. If you’re staying in the historic districts of Key West, just walk or take a short taxi ride over to the Seaport. If you’re staying on Roosevelt Blvd at the Blue Flamingo Resort, Havana Cabana or the Laureate Hotel you’ll want a taxi or Uber. It’s a further distance to walk than you’ll likely want to do.
