It’s not weird that I’m writing about staying at the Holiday Inn Key Largo because we’ve actually stayed here three times and it’s a consistent option for our family. Many of the hotels and resorts throughout the Florida Keys are independently owned and operated, so finding a place that we can use or earn loyalty points via a national travel brand is kind of a bonus. We really like when we stay at the Holiday Inn Key Largo because it’s so many other families and it’s not as fancy and luxurious as so many Florida Keys hotels. It’s a good standard.
Have you stayed at the Holiday Inn Key Largo? If you haven’t and you’re not sure about choosing a hotel brand that you see everywhere versus something unique to the Keys, read on and see if this is right for you. Please let us know if you have any questions about staying here or need ideas for things to do on Key Largo. Just leave a comment or send us a note. This is my favorite Key and we’re always happy to share more!
Why Stay at the Holiday Inn Key Largo
One of the reasons we consistently stay at the Holiday Inn Key Largo is because we’re often able to either book it with IHG points or we find a great deal for it. Our stays are usually for one night either to start or end our trips through the Keys. Our kids always like staying here because they know they enjoy the two swimming pools and one of our favorite restaurants is next door. It’s a great location and usually a good value.
If you’re coming to Key Largo for fishing or mooring your own boat, the Holiday Inn Key Largo is right next to the marina. It’s the same marina that the African Queen boat tour and several others go out of. If you haven’t planned anything for your time here, it’s easy to pop over to the marina and find either a dolphin cruise, snorkel trip or fishing charter on short notice.
Room Options at the the Key Largo Holiday Inn
The Holiday Inn Key Largo is very simple, very cut-to-the-chase. The room options are either two queen bed, two doubles, or a king with a sofa sleeper. While I love when we have the option of a junior suite or something larger, the rooms are plenty big for an easy overnight. When you check in, you can request if you want a room on the first or second floor. I like being on the first floor because of the easy access to the pools tiki bar.
Holiday Inn Hotel Amenities
I mentioned the great swimming pools here at the Holiday Inn Key Largo, and they really are a highlight for us. Since this is a hotel versus a resort I don’t expect it to have a ton to offer besides a clean room and a swimming pool, but here we’ve got two pools, one of which has a nice waterfall, a poolside tiki bar (a must in the Keys) and a hot tub. We usually sit outside our room on the patio after our kids go to bed, so it’s nice to have a good public space that’s easily accessible.
There is also a fitness center on site (not huge) if you need it and although they’re just around the hotel, there are really nice garden paths. I’m not saying that the paths and outdoor space is a fancy and lush as at Bakers Cay Resort or other Keys resort hotels, but this hotel does have very good outdoor spaces. There are even pickleball courts!
Dining at the Holiday Inn Key Largo (and recommendations)
There is a restaurant on site at the Holiday Inn Key Largo and if your stay includes breakfast (not all do) this is where you’ll go. There is also the tiki bar by the pool where you can get light lunch, dinner or snacks. Actually, one of my favorite restaurants on Key Largo is right next door: Skipper’s Dockside. Actually, I’ve tried and rated more than 20 different slices of Key Lime Pie in the Florida Keys and Skipper’s Dockside has been my #1 favorite for years, so if nothing else, stop in to get a slice of key lime pie.
Holiday Inn Key Largo Parking Information
Parking is free at the Holiday Inn Key Largo. Since the marina next door is a part of the same property, visitors who are heading out on boat trips will also be parking here, but don’t worry, there is a ton of parking all around the hotel so you won’t have trouble with it.

More Things to Do on Key Largo
I really enjoy spending time on Key Largo as there are great activities and lots of good restaurants. Being the first of the towns in the Florida Keys, this is the easiest key for people in Miami and South Florida to get to, so it’s a popular weekend destination. Every day of the week is great though, and it maintains its chill mode most of the time. Key Largo is a good place to launch into wildlife tours with several snorkeling and dive outfitters being based here.
Also, there are a few state parks on Key Largo, but the highlight really is John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. From trails to kayaking to glass bottom boats and snorkel trips, this is the one-stop-shop for an awesome Key Largo experience.
Here are more options for activities on Key Largo.
Where to Stay on Key Largo
Key Largo is the largest of the Florida Keys and has boutique hotels, roadside motels, B&Bs and resorts. We’ve enjoyed staying in condo style resorts and well as luxe spots on Key Largo. Heck, the Holiday Inn Key Largo is actually our most frequented hotel in the Keys. Check out the map below for ideas for where to stay when you come to this wonderful island.
I hope this has been helpful in choosing where to stay on Key Largo. We’ve enjoyed the consistency of the Holiday Inn Key Largo for years. The vibe here is mellow and fun, and is perfectly Florida Keys. If you have any questions about visiting Key Largo or need additional recommendations, please leave a comment or send us a note.
